 | 07:00 pm - O, heavenly sanctuary Master, bless.
My most precious ones,
I am hoping the proof copy will arrive tomorrow... At the same time, I have been thinking, O, Lord... I am not sure about this...
You know, the usual.
I thought you might like to see the set of robes I made for myself yesterday. These are made of polar, very warm. Lest you marvel at my "sewing skills," the robes are basically three rectangles sewed together: two at the front, joined to one at the back. The length at the shoulders is 48 inches, and at the center, 51 inches (this is necessary to prevent trailing).
Now... What does your professor wear on sunday mornings?

( Two more... Closer up, and from the back )
I was overjoyed this morning because I visited our new bookstore for the first time (it is in what was formerly known as the church garage). It has just opened (there was a rush to get everything done in time for the consecration of Bishop Irénée and Metropolitan Jonah's visit). Man alive! I was astounded and delighted. It is beautiful. I was expecting books and perhaps a few icons... But they had everything, music, a breathtaking selection of icons, incense, books, cards, prayer ropes, even vestments and chalices. Whenever I need gifts for loved ones, I shall have all I require at hand. I left with icons. You can never have too many icons.
They will, um, carry my silly books. If you live in the Ottawa region (our church is at 15 Lebreton St. N. in Chinatown), the store hours are:
Thursday: 12:00pm – 4:00pm Friday: 11:30am – 4:30 pm Saturday: 11:30am – 4:30 pm Sunday: 2:00pm – 4:00 pm
I shall try to take pictures for you next time I am there.
Well, I shall see if I can get some work done on my fics (in addition to "Darkest before dawn," I shall update "O my soul" soon -a miracle!) to get my mind off The flawed master's imminent release and my fears that I am foisting something horrific upon my unsuspecting cherished ones. My stomach has been a little tender (because of the anti-inflammatories I took this week, combined with mild agitation, I believe); it was with such gratitude that participated in the Liturgy today... Blessed be the name of the Lord.
In this world, everything is flawed, but... Regardless of this -indeed, because of this- I can only say "It is good." The Lord has taught me to see and the words in my heart are, yes, Master, it is good. Suffering produces patient endurance, the fruit of which is peace and love.
Your devoted Logospilgrim, the quiet professor Current Mood: book may be here tomorrow

 | 06:33 pm - Team Mercury

Yay, the first chapters of the Intergalactic Quidditch Cup are up now. Our first chapter of Quicksilver was written by stefdarlin, and it sure is worth the read. I should mention that teams receive points for every review, and you totally want my team to win, right? And besides, who would want to mess with Mr Malfoy?
You can read it here.

 | 05:55 pm - sundries And home Internet is working again!
Need a job? copperbadge set up a networking post in his journal.
I'm out of my horrible NaNo funk and over 10K. Which like 3K behind, but hey. I ight be able to do more tonight after I work on other deadlines.
Am I just hideously old-fashioned for refusing to put up holiday card or wish list things before the day after Thanksgiving? Is everyone else already holiday shopping? Is that why my book is suddenly regularly being ranked better than 2K on Amazon.com? (WHERE IS MY ROYALTY CHECK?)
"When the Berlin Wall fell, dear Frau Schubert, I began dreaming migraines": Berlin poems.
In America I feel we have often made an art form of selling our souls for meager safety. This whole health care situation is no exception.
Looks like New York is the next big gay marriage battleground. I'm not looking forward to this.
Gay parents and our child-centric times. Do I detect a weird moment of judgment and yucky double-standards when the article notes "While girls raised by lesbian mothers seem slightly more likely to have more sexual partners, and boys slightly more likely to have fewer, than those raised by heterosexual mothers, neither sex is more likely to suffer from gender confusion nor to identify themselves as gay"?
Gender expression and high school: "When a principal asks a boy to leave his handbag at home, is the request an attempt to protect a student from harassment or harassment itself?"

 | 01:27 pm - To Frog or Not to Frog, That is the Question Strange question, but since I've never felted I thought I'd ask. My mother-in-law bought two sweaters in Ireland that are wool. She wasn't thinking about it and washed them in hot water, might even have dried them. Since she couldn't wear them anymore she gave them to me.
How hopeless would it be to frog a sweater that's been lightly felted? One of them still has the yarn visible as yarn, it's just really fuzzy yarn. Would the yarn itself be so damaged or changed by the heat that it would be pointless to use even after I unraveled it? I'm a little afraid of the answer, but give it to me anyway.
The other one I don't think can be unraveled, it's a little too far gone I think. I'm thinking of felting that one all the way and cutting it up into panels to make a bag or something. I don't have a clue what to do with it other then that.
PS Is there anyway we can get a "felting" tag?

 | 01:35 pm - cats! 1. Patty cuddles with Pretty Kitty, who is very sweet, but very nervous so if you try to hold her she stands up and walks around. Pretty is a skinny, delicate, normal (as far as it goes) cat. After this photo, the other cat feels neglected and comes over, causing Pretty Kitty to skitter away.
( Next, meet Little Kitty. She's a bit scary. )

 | 09:40 am - Baby Blanket I finished a baby blanket for a friend of mine and I just love it. I've only ever done granny square blankets before so this was a new style of blanket for me. ( Two pictures )
Now I'm working on a little jacket in the same yarn for a different friend that is expecting too. That is, if I can get the gauge right. I've tried two different hooks so far and it's either way to big, or just a bit to small.
PS I'm xdragonladyx on Ravelry too

 | 05:20 pm - Cho Chang It's kind of a new tradition, but my friends and I like to do a yearly photoshoot on Halloween. We go to University of the Pacific, which was just ranked one of the most beautiful colleges, so we like to take advantage of the Hogwarts-esque scenery. Here are the final shots from this year's Halloween. Me as Cho Chang, and my friends Eckoii, Shioji, and Tiff as photographers.
I've also included a picture of the pins I made. I feel like the pins add that little detail that indicate "Cho," instead of just "general Ravenclaw student." I have my Ravenclaw badge, a "RIP Cedric Diggory" pin, and a little tornado with the letters "TT" on them - to support the Tutshill Tornados.
